Dead Weight
Praise be to the Lords of the Dome, the beings of the Higher Dimension! You have been chosen for the glorious position of Scale Operator on the Endless Pillar №219. It will now be your responsibility to administer the sacred Weighing of the deceased Souls as they ascend to the afterlife on the Exalted Dome. Carefully consider the weight of their past Deeds and ensure that the Scale sends them to the realm of the correct deity.
Note: Due to their past lives, Souls are known to hold preferences for different Lords of the Dome. Feel free to use extra Weights or Re-education to ensure maximum customer satisfaction.
Remember! You answer only to the Lords of the Dome — make sure the Souls are happy to join their ranks, and try to keep the balance of powers even. The Employee Handbook strictly forbids inciting civil war.
Controls:
Spacebar - send the current Soul to the afterlife
Mouse - switch between scenes and play cards
You have been contracted as a Scale Operator [№219]. For seven days, you will have to examine Souls to ensure they are sent to the realm of the correct one of the four deities (Lords of the Dome), while trying to keep your Job Security from reaching zero. Each day, a number of Souls must be Weighed using your Scale within a set time limit — each Soul has a random weight and randomised Traits that affect to which Lord they are aligned.
These are the Lords, in the order they appear from top to bottom of the Scale:
- Svampen, the Eternal Tree (GREEN)
- Jonathan Robinson, PhD (BLUE)
- Dzba'al, the Canned Collector (ORANGE)
- Scru'mthzaza'ar, the Agile One (PURPLE)
Use your starting deck of Neutral Weight cards to influence the Weight of each Soul, manipulating where they get sent. You may play up to four cards for each Soul. Every time a Soul is resolved, you draw the number of cards you played, up to the hand limit of 4. Plan accordingly. Press your SPACEBAR to finalize the position of the Scale and send the Soul to the afterlife!
Your Job Security is increased by assigning Souls to their aligned deity. Job Security decreases whenever a Soul is sent to a Lord in conflict with their alignment, as well as for each Soul you failed to Weigh before the time limit expired. The conflicting Lords are as follow:
- Svampen, the Eternal Tree (GREEN) and Dzba’al, the Canned Collector (ORANGE)
- Jonathan Robinson, PhD (BLUE) and Scru’mthaza’ar, the Agile One (PURPLE)
Additionally, whenever a Lord is sent a new Soul, their Influence is affected positively or negatively based on the Traits of the Soul. The Influence of all gods can be checked in the Gods window at any time, while the given Soul’s Traits and Alignment are seen in the Soul window.
After each day, you may add a few coloured Favour cards to your deck, up to the deck limit of 12 cards (you may discard old cards to add new ones). Favour cards work the same as Neutral cards, with the added rules:
- You may play a Favour card to change the alignment of a Soul (by adding the Favour’s alignment if it’s not present, or by negating the alignment to the conflicting Lord). This can be done in the Soul window
- Whenever you play a Favour card to affect the weight of a Soul, the Influence of the Lord whose Favour you used is also changed by the Soul’s Traits. This means that using several different Favours may lead to unforeseen consequences.
- After Weighing the last Soul of the day, each Favour card left in your hand affects the Influence of its Lord by the value on the card
After a certain day, you will start seeing Apostles. These Souls have an additional, special Trait. If you send them to the one correct deity hinted at by that Trait, you will receive a unique Favour card! Otherwise, a Neutral card is awarded.
Your performance is rated at the end of the week based on your Job Security as well as the Influence of all deities, so make sure to keep the factions of the afterlife in balance!
